Ben Howard - Black Flies

Amazing!!! Ben Howard conveys so much emotion in his songs. Every squint of his eyes shows his passion for the music he creates. I'm pretty sure if God had an iPod, this would be on it.
Please support this artist and let me know what you think.

Cheers!

LYRICS:

Black flies on the windowsill
That we are
That we are
That we are to know
Winter stole summer's thrill
And the river's cracked and cold

See the sky is no man's land
A darkened plume to stay
Hope here needs a humble hand
Not a fox found in your place

And no man is an island, oh this I know
But can't you see, oh?
Maybe you were the ocean, when I was just a stone

Black flies on the windowsill
That we are
That we are
That we are to hold
Comfort came against my will
And every story must grow old

Still I'll be a traveler
A gypsy's reins to face
But the road is wearier
With that fool found in your place

And no man is an island, oh this I know
But can't you see, oh?
Maybe you were the ocean, when I was just a stone
[x2]

And I don't wanna beg your pardon
And I don't wanna ask you why
But if I was to go my own way
Would I have to pass you by?
[x2]

LYRICS:

Take me to the docks, there's a ship without a name
It is sailing to the middle of the sea
The water there is deeper than anything you've ever seen
...Jump right in and swim until you freeze

I will remember your face
'Cause I am still in love with that place
But when the stars are the only things we share
Will you be there?

Money came like rain to your hands while you were waiting
For that cold long promsie to appear
People in the churches started singing above their hands
They say "My God is a good God and he cares"

I will remember your face
'Cause I am still in love with that place
When the stars are the only things we share
Will you be there?

I've got a plan
I've got an atlas in my hands
I'm gonna turn when I listen to the lessons that I've learned

Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know

This song is great and the emotion behind it is quite moving. Gotye has a great voice and when you get to the chorus you will understand. The live versions are great as well, showing it isn't just recorded well. Kimbra adds a nice touch and her voice is great for the agony reflected in the song. The chords aren't difficult at all and it is quite fun to learn and sing. You may need to go an octave lower in the chorus though if you don't wanna belt it :-). I have included two versions below which are both covers. One is from Ron Pope and the other is by Walk off the Earth.

Here is some info about Gotye:

Wouter "Wally" De Backer (born 21 May 1980), also known professionally by his stage name Gotye, (pronounced Go-te-yae), is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumental musician and singer-songwriter. The name "Gotye" is derived from "Gaultier" (or "Gautier" or "Gauthier",) the French equivalent of "Wouter" ("Walter" in English.) Gotye's voice has been compared to Sting and Peter Gabriel, some fans even going to the extent of mixing Gotye's vocals with tracks by The Police.
He has released three studio albums independently and one album featuring remixes of tracks from his first two albums. De Backer is also one-third of Melbourne indie-pop trio The Basics, who have independently released three studio albums and numerous other titles since 2002.
He has won five ARIA Awards and received a nomination for an MTV EMA for Best Asia and Pacific Act.

LYRICS:

[Gotye:]
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

[Kimbra:]
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know

[Gotye:]
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

[x2]
Somebody
(I used to know)
Somebody
(Now you're just somebody that I used to know)

(I used to know)
(That I used to know)
(I used to know)
Somebody

Quote of the Day (E. E. Cummings - I Carry Your Heart)

Thanks Ashley :-)

i carry your heart with me
i carry it in my heart

i am never without it
anywhere i go you go, my dear;
and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling

i fear no fate
for you are my fate, my sweet
i want no world
for beautiful you are my world, my true

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
here is the root of the root
and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart
i carry it in my heart

Goo Goo Dolls - Name

So this song...where do I start. So many good times with this band. They are absolutely amazing and have such an influence on me. They have inspired me to write the down-to-earth heartfelt lyrics that i now thrive on. They have shown me that going with your gut and putting yourself out there will bring nothing but success in your life. The pure emotion behind their music is genuine and earnest.

This song in particular has gotten me through some hard times and also some good. The delivery is amazing and upbeat, yet so emotionally charged. The lyrics: "Don't it make you sad to know that life, is more than who we are" is a great line. It makes us realize that there has to be something more out there that we are working for. Something more meaningful, and that we should make the best of our life and treat others with love and respect.

I loved learning this song on guitar for the first time, feels like forever ago. The tuning came off a little weird, but so is the tuning for their top hit "IRIS", but made complete sense once I had finished tuning it (sometimes taking longer than expected haha). The chords and fingerpicking patterns work so well together and it isn't too hard to get the hang of, although i do remember it being fairly difficult to sing and play at the same time in the beginning.

Let me know what you think about this masterpiece and listen to it, learn it, and you will love it.

Check out the band here: http://www.googoodolls.com/

LYRICS:

And even though the moment passed me by
I still cant turn away
Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose
are tossed along the way
Letters that you never meant to send
Lost and thrown away

And now we are grown up orphans that never knew their names
We dont belong to no one thats a shame
You could hide beside me
Maybe for a while
And I won't tell no one your name..
And I won't tell 'em your name

Scars are souvenirs you'll never lose
The past is never far
Did you lose yourself somewhere out there?
Did you get to be a star?
Don't it make you sad to know that life
Is more than who we are?

We grew up way too fast
Now there's nothing to believe
And re-runs all become our history
A tired song keeps playin on a tired radio
And I won't tell no one your name...
And I won't tell 'em your name
I won't tell 'em your name...I won't tell 'em your name

I think about ya all the time
but I don't need to sing...
It's lonely where you are, come back down
And I won't tell your name
